Ten district councils meet to discuss amendment to sixth schedule
Shillong, Aug 10: The ten autonomous district councils (ADCs) from the North East have decided to urge the Centre to speed up the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
A meeting chaired by the convenor and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem decided this at Tripura Castle here on Saturday.
Syiem said, “The union home minister Amit Shah had assured us during our meeting with him that within August 25, the central committee constituted recently has been asked to complete the task of addressing issues raised by the ten ADCs.”
“We have decided addeconstitute a committee to ensure unity of all the ten ADCs on the matter. We will later announce the name of this committee,” he added.
The committee will be headed by Syiem as chief convenor and Chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (also known as TIPRA Motha) Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC)’s Elwin Teron as advisors along with members from all 10 ADCs.
