Shillong, March 7: NPP MLA from North Tura Thomas Sangma is set to become the next Assembly Speaker uncontested as the Opposition failed to field any candidate for the post.
Assembly Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons said on Tuesday that only one nomination was received on Tuesday.

“4 pm today was the deadline to file nominations, we received only one nomination from NPP ( Thomas Sangma) , we did not receive anything from the Opposition”, Simons said.
