Three Bangladeshi infiltrators nabbed in Meghalaya
Based on intelligence inputs about possible infiltration, BSF troopers on Monday launched an operation in Muktapur village in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, close to the India-Bangladesh border, and captured six people, including three Bangladeshi nationals and three persons from Meghalaya, a BSF official said.
During the operation, three Bangladeshi nationals, including one female, along with three Indian facilitators, were apprehended, the BSF informed.
The BSF has intensified vigil along the 443-km international border that Meghalaya shares with Bangladesh ever since the neighbouring country’s political unrest outbreak.
“Amidst the ongoing unrest and deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh, the BSF Meghalaya Frontier has heightened surveillance and intensified border domination along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent illegal crossings and ensure national security,” the BSF asserted.
“The apprehended illegal Bangladeshi migrants and their Indian accomplices have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action,” the BSF informed.
A night curfew is in force along the entire stretch of the international border that Meghalaya shares with Bangladesh.
