Regional panels to be formed for second phase of border talks

Shillong, Aug 21: After the meeting of the Chief Ministers of both Assam and Meghalaya held in Dispur on Sunday, it was decided that within 15 days, Regional Committees will be formed with the cabinet ministers from the respective states as Chairpersons to resolve the second phase of six border areas of difference.
Members of the Karbi Anglong District Council will also be part of the RCs, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted after the meeting.
The second phase of border talks between Assam and Meghalaya will resolve the remaining 6 areas of difference- Khanduli & Psiar, Block 1 & Block 2, Borduar, Langpih, Nongwah-Mawtamur & Desh Doomreah.
Once the RCs are formed, site visits and public consultations will also be initiated. In order to give confidence to the people and in the spirit of commitment to resolve our border issue, both the chief ministers will visit some of the disputed areas especially Block I and Block II, Conrad said.
He said for the 6 areas of differences in phase one, the process is moving forward with the survey and demarking of borders. Both Meghalaya and Assam governments are working to ensure the completion of the survey, Conrad said.
“Glad to share that Assam & Meghalaya will form 3 Regional Committees headed by Cabinet Minister from both the states to resolve boundary disputes in 6 remaining areas of differences. This was decided during my 9th meeting with my Meghalaya counterpart Shri @SangmaConradji”, Assam CM tweeted.
