Shillong, June 28: The recent case of murder of a man allegedly by his wife, lover and two brothers of the woman in West Garo Hills was reported weeks before the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the husband of Sonam Raghuvanshi though many draw parallels.
Brother reports murder
In a belated report, the police said on May 7 Tikrikilla police station, in West Garo Hills, received a written FIR from Oman Marak of Rongalgre who reported about the death of his brother Pirot R. Marak under suspicious conditions. His late brother was married to Nennen R. Marak, of Renggigre, village. He alleged that their marital life was strained due to his wife Nennen R Marak’s illicit relationship with Reknan K. Sangma, aged 41, a resident of the same locality.
Relationship known to village
It was alleged that the relationship was not only known to them but also to the entire village, and it had caused tension between them.
The FIR also mentioned that on April 14 this year, the relatives from both sides had to intervene and console them after they eloped together and returned home after four days, leaving his brother in distress.
Sudden death
On April 15 around 12 am, they received information that his brother Pirot R Marak had suddenly died. He further said upon reaching the spot on the same day, the relatives witnessed his body with severe injuries.
As time passed, rumours spread within the community and the relatives believed there was a foul play behind his sudden death. They suspected his wife and her brothers, Sengba R. Marak, Lepson R. Marak and even her paramour Reknan K. Sangma might be involved in the murder. The motive behind the incident appears to be the strained marital relationship, the police said.
Body buried by family
The relatives thought over it and they believed that it was murder and decided to file FIR at Tikrikilla PS.
Since the FIR was submitted after more than 15 days of the incident and that the body had also been buried by the family members, the Officer-in-Charge Tikrikilla registered a case u/s 103(1)/3(5) BNS on the same day. He then moved the court for exhumation of the body in presence of a magistrate and for post mortem.
On June 12, the body was exhumed and the post mortem conducted. The post mortem report was received by Trikrikilla PS on June 22 which confirmed the presence of injury marks on the neck and on the private parts. “Hence the suspects namely the wife, her paramour and her brothers were arrested on June 24 and the case is being investigated”, the police added.
