Top ISL teams to feature in Durand Cup

The coveted tournament all set to kick off in Kolkata from August 2

Shillong, June 2: Top teams from Indian Super League are likely to feature in Durand Cup this season.
As per our sources, Mumbai City FC, ATK Mohun Bagan, NorthEast United FC and FC Goa are likely to take part in the so-called season opener of Indian football, likely to start from August 2 in Kolkata.
As per the reports, this will be a 10-team competition and since Kolkata is the host city, organizers are planning to include SC East Bengal and Mohammedan SC in the competition. The remaining slots to be filled by I-League champions and runners-up and teams from the Army.
Durand Cup is Asia’s oldest and world’s third oldest football tournament, first held in 1888 in Annadale, Shimla.
The tournament is named after its founder, Sir Mortimer Durand, the then Foreign Secretary of British India. Currently, Gokulam Kerala is the holder of the Durand Cup.
Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, major sporting events in the country had been cancelled and postponed including Durand Cup. However, in the upcoming season, coveted football tournaments like Durand Cup and Indian Super Cup is expected to make a grand return.
As per our sources, it has been learnt that All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Ltd. (FSDL) are planning to organize the Indian Super Cup preceding the eighth season of the Indian Super League (ISL)
Well, with all means it looking to be quite an exciting season for football lovers in the country.
The main mission of this tournament is to restore the historic tournament to its original glory by bringing together the best football teams of the country in a display of skill and sportsmanship.
