Shillong, July 26: Hotel booking has sustained 30% loss after the HNYF sent back the tourists on Friday.
Prominent tourism associations of Meghalaya met and condemned the HNYF for stopping tourist vehicles coming from outside the state at Umtyngar, East Khasi Hills.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Parambir S Sehdave, president, Federation of Shillong Hotels said on Friday 30% bookings were cancelled and in the coming days it will be more than 50 %.
Tourism Operators Association of Meghalaya, Federation of Shillong Hotels, Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum, Tour Guide Operator Association of Meghalaya, Meghalaya Tourist Development Forum, Tour Guide Association of Meghalaya and others discussed the issue.
They have decided to write a letter to Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh for his intervention.
According to the president of Tourism Operators Association of Meghalaya Banlum Blah, the association will write to the minister about the incident demanding action against individuals involved.
“It was a surprise not only to the tourists but it was also a big surprise for us as for the first time we have heard that tourists are being stopped and sent back” said Blah.
“From all the tourism associations of Meghalaya, we want to apologize to all the tourists who have been affected today. From the tourism stakeholders side we appeal to all the tourists to come back to Meghalaya as such incidents will not happen again” he said.
