Truckers’ body to continue protest

Shillong, Nov 7: The Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners’ and Drivers’ Association (MCTODA) will wait for the release of its president and others before calling off the strike.
The association held a metting with Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday.
“We have decided to wait till Monday for its president’s release before deciding the next course of action. The strike will continue till Tuesday,” MCTODA member Lumlang Mawnai told reporters after briefing the outcome of the meeting with Dhar.
The association is protesting along the national highway in Mawryngkneng.
Earlier Deputy Chief Minister In-charge Home said law will take its course when asked about the arrest of the members of MCTODA.
VPP condemns arrest
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has strongly condemned the MDA government’s actions against MCTODA describing it as excesses and brutality.
In a statement, VPP Spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said, “The action of the Government deserves strongest condemnation from all quarters and it has no place in a democratic society.
