TUR demands CBI inquiry into Huddersfield death
Shillong, Nov 18: The Thma U Rangli Juki has demanded that there should be an independent and time-bound CBI inquiry into the murder of Huddersfield Rymbui by a speeding police escort vehicle of the Tourism Minister rushing to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Meghalaya police cannot conduct the inquiry “because the murder accused belongs to Meghalaya police”, a statement said on Monday.
“This murder is an outcome of VIP and high-level culture of impunity that allows the political and the bureucratic class of Meghalaya to ride rough-shod over all democratic norms and rule of law. It needs no reminding that Supreme Court directives on Red Beacon and a police escort is violated with impunity in Meghalaya, where politicians and their retinue and family, to bureaucrats, all travel around in vehicles with tinted glasses, many with red beacon and sirens and police escorts,” TUR said in its statement.
“TUR appeals to the citizens to lodge a mass complaint about any such instances of VIP culture and rise up against such abuse of power that threatens the everyday lives of citizens in more ways than one,” it added.
