Shillong, April 26: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the work for construction of the Tura medical college is progressing while the government is yet to finalise the plan for Shillong medical college.
“We have about 45% of physical progress. There are some problems, we are engaging with other nearby hospitals to ensure that we reach the mark of 450 beds as recommended by the MCI,” Lyngdoh told reporters, while commenting on the status of Tura medical college.
Regarding the proposal to set up the Shillong medical college, Lyngdoh said the government is yet to formulate the approach as the matter will be discussed in the cabinet.
“However, the internal engagements are on”, she added.
Surplus of nurses
According to Ampareen, there is a surplus of nurses in the state and the government is contemplating to make learning of foreign languages compulsory for nurses keeping in mind there is a big requirement of nursing care in foreign countries.
Ampareen reviewed the human resource status in the health sector.
She told reporters that in Meghalaya as there are more nurses against the numbers of jobs that are available.
