Two abductors killed, victims rescued in WGH
Shillong, Nov 10: Police in West Garo Hills shot dead two abductors and rescued two victims after an operation on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bikas Chetia of Guwahati, who is a taxi driver, was abducted on November 4 from Tikrikilla.
Later, Goalpara police informed that one child was also kidnapped and kept in West Garo Hills on November 9.
According to the statement of SP, West Garo Hills, it was found that both the persons have been abducted by the same gang of criminals from Meghalaya and Assam.
Subsequently, based on the findings of investigation, a counter-insurgency operation was launched on November 9.
The police team (in picture) found the gang as well as the victims at a place in Dibru hills forest reserve near Bamandanga/Gaptuli.
“However, the armed miscreants also saw the police team. They immediately fired at the police team which also retaliated in self defence. The exchange of fire continued for approximately 2-3 minutes. Once the exchange of fire stopped, the place of occurrence was cordoned and thoroughly searched during which two unidentified bodies were recovered”, the SP said.
Both the abducted victims were also rescued.
One AK series rifle, one pistol and one camouflage bag were also found near the bodies with 23 numbers of 7.62 mm and 9 numbers of 9 mm ammunition along with other incriminating materials.
Police also recovered 19 empty 9 mm and 14 empty 7.62 mm cartridge cases.
