Two held with drugs

Shillong, Aug 8: The Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested two persons and seized 48.78 grams of heroin worth around Rs 7 lakh in West Jaintia Hills on Saturday.
SP, ANTF, Vikash Kumar said the seizure was made during a joint operation with West Jaintia Hills Police based on specific intelligence.
“Acting on credible input that two individuals travelling from Silchar towards Shillong were carrying narcotics, ANTF along with West Jaintia Hills Police set up a NAKA at Phramer on NH-06,” Kumar said.
A Network Travels bus, ML-05-T-8381, was intercepted around 8 am. Two passengers were identified as Robert Nongrum (33), of Umktait, Nongmynsong and Batskhemlang Jarain (32), of Umktait Block-III, Shillong.
“During search, two plastic soap cases concealed in a jacket were recovered. Spot testing confirmed heroin. Total net weight was 48.78 grams,” Kumar said.
He said police are now probing the source, destination and possible interstate links.
“The investigation is underway to ascertain the source, supply chain, financial trail and possible interstate linkages,” he said.
Kumar added that ANTF will continue to step up intelligence-driven operations.
