Shillong, July 3: Two workers from the state were killed in a landslide in the neighbouring Assam.
Police in West Garo Hills received information from officer-in-charge Ledo Out Post, under Margherita police station in Tinsukia, Assam that two persons from West Garo Hills district have succumbed in the hospital after a landslide in tea garden under Ledo outpost where they were working.
The incident took place on July 1 evening.
The bodies have been handed over to the family members by the police from Margherita on July 3 after post mortem.
The details of the deceased are:-
1. Tubul G Momin (45), Bogadola PO- Holaidanga PS- Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills
2. Lebendro G Momin (29 ) Kanchonkona PO/PS- Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills
Earlier, the victims were identified by their relatives who were also working as labourers in a construction site. The officer in-charge of Ledo outpost was in touch with the police in West Garo Hills.
The mishap comes after two Ri Bhoi coal miners were killed after a mine caved in at a place in Tinsukia, Assam on May 25.
Earlier, media reports had erroneously mentioned that the Garo workers died in a coal mine due to poisonous gas.
