Shillong, July 6: Two bodies out of the four found in Umpleng village in East Jaintia Hills have been identified by the police.
Among others, police are probing drug angle into the brutal murder of the persons who were suspected drug users.
The two victims have been identified as Nasar Kyndait (33), son of Thil Kyndait, a resident of Dkhiah East Pohshnong and Ravi Rai (23) son of Devi Rai, a resident of Pastha Elam, Nepal.
According to the police, on July 6 around 7.30 am , a telephonic information was received by the officer in-charge of Umpleng Anti-Dacoity camp that four persons were found dead behind Umpleng market. Accordingly, officers and staff arrived at the scene and discovered the bodies lying with their hands tied with rope and multiple cut injuries on their bodies likely caused by sharp objects, and appeared to have been murdered. Crime Scene Unit (CSU) mobile forensic crime scene unit and magistrate were requisitioned. On the arrival of the CSU, mobile forensic crime scene unit, independent witnesses, and magistrate, an inquest was conducted, collection of evidence and other formalities were observed at the spot. Later, after observing all the formalities at the place of occurance , the bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Khliehriat for post mortem. In this connection a criminal case has been taken up and investigation is ongoing. In view of the seriousness of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to assist the investigation officer of the case for an effective investigation, police added.
