Two veteran leaders pass away

Shillong, March 13: Two veteran political  leaders of Meghalaya passed away on Sunday.

While former Minister Atul Marak (78) from West Garo Hills passed away earlier in the day, former Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh (83) passed away around 8 pm at his residence in the city.

The former Congress leader Rowell, who represented Mawkyrwat several terms, had joined the NPP before the Assembly polls in 2018. In the beginning of his political career, he was also associated with APHLC and  HSPDP.

Marak, who was originally with the Congress representing Selsella in the Assembly, had associated with Captain WA Sangma, PA Sangma and SC Marak. Later he joined NCP.

He had also contested from BJP and also as an independent.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condoled the death of both the leaders and recalled their association with his late father PA Sangma.
