
Shillong, July 1: Three months after the death of a woman and child, whose bodies were found floating in a pond in Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills allegedly killed by her lover, another similar incident was reported from the district on June 30.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Eastern West Khasi Hills SP Dangsan Khyriem said that on June 30 around 5:30 pm at the Pyndengumiong private parking lot, Mairang, a 27- year- old woman, Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew was attacked and killed by her ex-boyfriend, Roberto Marngar (25) of Nongshyiap Jarain, Eastern West Khasi Hills.
According to preliminary reports, the accused, enraged by the victim’s decision to end their relationship, attacked her from behind with a traditional Khasi kitchen knife while she was walking with her father. The victim, a resident of Mawkhap Khwa, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital, Mairang with the help of alert members of the public and the VDP members of Pyndengumiong, where she succumbed to her injuries. The assailant was apprehended on the spot by the public and VDP members and was subsequently handed over to police officials of Mairang Police Station.
Considering the serious nature of the case, the crime scene was secured by the police personnel of Mairang police station. Subsequently, the crime scene unit and forensic experts were called and they aided the police officials of Mairang police station in evidence collection and investigation of the crime scene.
In connection with the incident, a case has been registered under Mairang police station with case No. 65(6)2025 u/s 103(1) BNS. The accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday and other legal formalities, including post-mortem are being carried out.
The Eastern West Khasi Hills district police thanked the people and the VDP members of Pyndengumiong for their swift response and assured that all efforts shall be made to ensure justice is served swiftly.
