Shillong, Sept 23: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has suspended three MLAs for being vocal about joining the BJP.
The action was against Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suin, Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla and Mawphlang MLA Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah.
The three members were among the eight legislators who joined the BJP in New Delhi, on Wednesday ( Sept 23).
The meeting of the party’s state Parliamentary Board chaired by UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh took the decision to suspend the trio on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the party had issued show cause notices to three members for publically announcing their desire to join the BJP.
The show- cause notices were issued to the trio, on Monday (Sept 21l.
“We had given them time till today ( Wednesday) to appear in person before the State Parliamentary Board or to send their reply in writing if they wished. But none of the three members have responded to the show cause notice.
The party with one voice has taken the decision to place the three members who are elected members of the UDP under suspension until further orders”, he said..
“We have given the suspension order in writing, and the party will decide its future course of action”, he added.
