UDP yet to finalise candidate for Shillong LS seat

Shillong, Dec 1: The UDP is yet to finalise the candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

The UDP leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh told  reporters on Friday that the  process of identifying the Lok Sabha candidates will be completed within a month’s time.

Lyngdoh said, “As far as the UDP is concerned, we have already gone ahead with the process of identifying our candidate and the process should be through in the next one month or even less than that.”

He said the former Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) president Robertjune Kharjahrin is one of the individuals, who have expressed interest in contesting from the Shillong parliamentary seat.

“As we speak there are 3-4 contenders  and I think it should be ready by a couple of weeks from today,” he said.

According to Lyngdoh, the preparation for the council elections is going on in full swing. The state election committee has already met a couple of times. “We should be in a position to at least have a preliminary list of candidates ready by January end”, he added.
