
Shillong, Feb 21: A complaint was lodged with the police after the wife of sitting MLA and TMC candidate George Lyngdoh and her brothers were assaulted.
George said the NPP workers attacked his wife and brothers after she tried to stop playing of loud music in the wee hours on Tuesday outside her house at Umroi Labansaro village by the occupants of a vehicle.
Though the FIR did not name any political party, the wife of the MLA said that she and others faced physical assault again by a mob after they followed the occupants of the vehicle to Umroi Nongrah village to know the reason why they were assaulted out side their house at Umroi Labansaro village.
A copy of the FIR filed with the Khapmara police outpost was also sent to the National Commission for Women stating that the goons outraged her modesty.
The FIR said police refused to act on the verbal complaint by George.
When contacted, the Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said, “As per report from DC
there were altercations between NPP supporters & TMC in Umroi Nongrah village. TMC alleged that the persons inside vehicle were drunk whereas NPP supporters alleged assault by TMC people for entry into the village. Police are investigating the matter
Police have registered a case”
