USTM clarifies on rehabilitation of children

Shillong, July 28: USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque has assured a delegation of Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) that the institute will not give shelter to the children of displaced people affected by anti-influx drive in Assam.
HITO president Donbok Dkhar said that the USTM made it clear that it will deal with the matter only in Assam and not in Meghalaya.

Earlier, during a meeting with the Chancellor, HITO expressed reservation over USTM’s initiative, ‘Mission Rehabilitation Education,’ aimed at providing educational support to children of evicted families from Assam.
HITO said this move could have far-reaching social and political consequences, potentially eroding the indigenous rights of the people of Meghalaya.
