VIP delegation led by Conrad visits rain-soaked Iewduh

Shillong, May 19:The rain-soaked Iewduh(Bara Bazar) had a VIP visitor, on Monday.
Braving rain, a delegation led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma visited important corners of the largest traditional market in Meghalaya.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Urban and Municipal Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, SP Vivek Syiem, security personnel, officials of Municipal and Urban Affairs and journalists also accompanied the chief minister.
In the torrential rain, umbrellas did not help much as the members of the delegation had to move through several alleys.
The delegation started the visit from Motphran and passed through the vegetable, fish, meat, poultry, handicrafts markets, Ïew Mawlong, and up to Khlieh Ïew to assess the condition of the market and its requirements.
“There’s a lot that needs to be done, and today’s rain offered valuable insight into the daily challenges faced by the public and shopkeepers alike”, the chief minister said.
The delegation assessed the market’s condition and understood the daily challenges faced by vendors and shoppers due to haphazard drainage system and lack of space.
“We are committed to revamping this iconic hub with Rs 21 crore. Out of this, Rs 6 for initial renovation is underway for enhancing infrastructure, and improving lives”, Conrad told reporters.
The project is funded by the state goverment and the NEC.
