NBT has been encouraging young visitors at the Shillong Book Fair to explore the virtual library. NBT director Yuvraj Malik said visitors could visit the store and scan the QR code to get access to 1,000 books for free. The collection will be enhanced to about 5,000 by the end of the year, he added.
The first day of the book fair, which was inaugurated by governor CH Vijayashankar, had a story writing competition in various languages, including Assamese, Bodo and Manipuri.
“The initiative was proposed in the 2023 budget and was officially launched in the beginning of this year at the Delhi Book Fair. So far, the response has been impressive. Even today, the enthusiasm of the children was laudable, ” said Atiqur Rahman, who moderated the competition.
