VPP against termination of service of adhoc employees

Shillong, Nov 3: VPP has asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma not to terminate the services of adhoc employees appointed against sanctioned posts.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangna on November 3, VPP president and Nongkrem MLA Ardent M.Basalawmoit opposed the termination of services of adhoc employees appointed against sanctioned posts
“The Voice of the People Party stands firm on the principle of rule of law, transparency and accountability, efficiency of administration and rights of the employees. The adhoc appointments in various offices symbolise that administration and governance in Meghalaya is a matter of concern for every citizen of a free and democratic country. It is in this context that the VPP remains committed to good governance”, Basaiawmoit said.
“The office Memorandum of your government dated 25.09.2025 requiring the adhoc employees appointed after 2007 to be terminated from service fails to appreciate the complexity of efficiency of administration and the rights of the employees. The adhoc employees appointed after 31.12.2007 have rendered services continuously for more than a decade without any break. Their services have enabled the government to run its administration. Therefore, it is highly objectionable that these employees be terminated and asked to reappear in the competitive examination. It was not their fault that they were appointed and continued in service”,the letter said.
In this context, the party opposed the order of the government to terminate the services of such employees appointed against sanctioned posts.
“‘It would be wrong on the part of the government to suddenly wake up in 2025 when the appointments were made 15 years ago. Your action causes emotional and financial stress to the employees. The employees have the right to claim for regularization as their previous batches. We therefore, demand that the services of such employees should be regularised and the government should stop harassing them”, he said.
The party strongly urges the government to immediately end the practice of making adhoc appointments in contravention to the government rules in the future and should fix responsibility on the erring officials”, Basaiawmoit said.
