Shillong, Jan 16: The Voice of the People Party ( VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit on Monday assured that the party is committed to protect the interests of all sections of people irrespective of caste creed and religion though the party was formed in Khasi Hills.
He was addressing a large gathering at Polo Ground where the party announced the second list of candidates -Adelbert Nongrum ( North Shillong) and Mayborn Lyngdoh ( Pynthorumkhrah).
Earlier, the party had released the names of 14 candidates.
Explaining the purpose of the public meeting, Basaiawmoit said the party’s aim is to ensure clean politics.
“The party is committed to fight against corruption. We have zero tolerance on corruption. No more favouritism. We will ensure transparency in MPSC and district election commitee.We want to see that there is no political interference or nepotism in the selection process for jobs”, Basaiawmoit said.
The VPP candidate for North Shillong, Adelbert stressed the need of review of state reservation policy.
He reminded the gathering that during his tenure as MLA, he had taken up many issues, including the review of state education policy
During the speech, he took time to kneel down and pray and later continued to address the gathering.
