VPP, KHNAM for review of reservation policy

Shillong, May 17: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit on Wednesday asserted that the government should review the state reservation policy.

The demand was made during a sit-in-demonstration organised by the party in  protest against the state government’s failure  to put on hold all recruitment processes till the state reservation policy is reviewed.

“It’s not a fight against any community, it’s a fight against injustice,” – read one of the placards displayed by protesters during the sit-in held at the parking lot near the Additional Secretariat here.

The party has also threatened to intensify its agitations if there is no positive outcome in the upcoming All-party meeting convened by the state government on May 18.

He has already urged the party supporters to gather in large numbers at the parking lot on Friday when all the parties discuss the issue.

KHNAM for review of reservation policy

KHNAM said the discussion on the ‘reservation roster’ without touching the reservation policy will not be enough.

“As per the letter received by the party and as per the subject stated, it is clear that the agenda of the political party meeting is “Reservation Roster”, we would therefore state that discussion of a Reservation Roster without touching the Reservation Policy will not be enough on the fact that both are related and the latter is the byproduct of the former,” KHNAM general secretary F Marpna said in a statement.

He said the party expects a thorough discussion on the current issue of roster and reservation policy in the upcoming all party meeting to be held on May 19.
