Last film in the trilogy reflects on rare, on-the-ground insight into how film can record and question identity

Wanphrang Diengdoh’s search for answers to identity and roots birthed a trilogy that is potentially seminal in the documentation and interpretation of Khasi history. The last of the trilogy, The Blood and The Border, had a private screening in the city a few weeks back. It was followed by a discussion that expanded the film’s subject and delved deeper into questions of identity, ethnicity and roots. The other documentaries in the series are Where the Clouds End (2015) and Because We Did Not Choose (2017).
Sunday Monitor spoke to the director to know more about the film, the reflection of his search for identity in the film, the unresolved border issues and his diasporic view of the community. Watch the full interview:
