War against drugs to continue:DGP
Shillong, May 5: DGP LR Bishnoi has asserted that war against drugs will continue.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Bishnoi said the police are committed to continue their operation against drug traffickers for eradication of the drug menace.
“We have waged a war against drugs. Our sustained crackdown will continue unabated,” Bishnoi said.
181 cases in last one year
During the last one year, 181 cases have been registered against drug traffickers and over 224 people including 37 ladies have been arrested.
Of these, 68 people are from other states like Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
A total of 127 vehicles and 292 mobile phones were also seized.
“We have seized 11.6 kgs of heroin in the last one year, 4600 kgs ganjas, 50,000 bottles of cough syrup, 42000 yaba tablets and 47,000 of other psychotropic substances. These seizures speak volumes of the magnitude of the problem here,” the DGP said.
Admitting that the problem is very serious as far as drug abuse and substance abuse is concerned, the DGP said, “That is why all sections of society are showing their concerns about this problem and we are definitely committed to continue these kinds of operation against the drug traffickers for total eradication of the menace.”
