
Shillong, March 4: The wife of the injured NEHU professor, K C Biswal, has urged the government to provide security to her husband.
Biswal was assaulted by masked miscreants on March 2 near ISBT, Mawiong, when he was returning from NEHU around 4.30 pm.
Police are yet to make any breakthrough.
The wife of the professor, Sanjukta Patra, told reporters that there is a need to provide security to her husband.
Biswal, who is undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS, said on Wednesday that after he took temporary charge as Registrar, he visited NEHU to ensure that the development funds meant for the University do not lapse as the financial year will end on March 31.
“Some students told me at NEHU that they will not support me, I conveyed to them that I am going back to Guwahati “, Biswal said.
Biswal, who is from the NEHU campus, Tura assumed temporary charge of the registrar in NEHU recently.
When the incident took place on March 2, he was on the way to Guwahati in a vehicle.
Biswal said two miscreants attacked him after they stopped the vehicle.
“They hit my head with stones, there were eight stitches after I was admitted in the hospital”, he said
