Wild elephants kill villager part of patrolling party in village under Ampati

Shillong, July 15: A villager was killed by wild elephants on July 13 night in South  West Garo Hills.

He has been identified as Rikrak S Sangma, son of Nikenson Ch. Marak, Jholgaoggre, Sulguri,  Ampati, South West Garo Hills.

According to a forest official, while patrolling with other villagers in the village vicinity to check on wild elephants, on the evening of  July 13 around 8 pm, the victim was suddenly charged by two wild elephants. Unable to outrun them, the victim was attacked near the roadside. The villagers then made loud noises to chase away the elephants and carried the  body. Subsequently, they informed the Ampati police station of the incident.
