Shillong, June 19: A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for posting a derogatory comment against the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district.
A joint team of the East Khasi Hills Special Cell and West Jaintia Hills police arrested Donlad Shylla from Nongjngi village in West Jaintia Hills, SP Sylvester Nongtnger said.
A suo motu case was registered against Shylla on June 17. The accused had recently put up a derogatory comment against Isawanda Laloo for asking citizens to get vaccinated.
The comment went viral on various social media platforms.
The cyber cell of East Khasi Police was engaged to track Shylla. The SP said the accused person will be produced in court and further investigation is being made to ensure that the case reaches its logical conclusion.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday took to Twitter to condemn Shylla’s remark. “Condemn the distateful (sic) comments made on the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district who has been executing her duties to the best of her ability to ensure the safety of all residents.”
“Supporting the administration that is tirelessly working through this pandemic is the least we can do as responsible citizens. Let us fight against this common enemy and support all those in the frontline,” he added.
