YMCA holds Open Western Acapella Choir Competition
Winners: St.Anthony’s College (1st),St.Edmund’s College (2nd) & St. Mary’s College of Teachers Education (3rd)
Shillong, Nov 7: The Open Western Acapella Choir Competition and Choir Singing Festival organised by YMCA Shillong in collaboration with state department of Arts and Culture , and hosted by Shillong Public School ,was held on Thursday at the Lariti International Center for performing Arts and Culture, Mawkasiang.
The winners of the Open Western Acapella Choir Competition were St.Anthony’s College (1st), St.Edmund’s College (2nd) and
St.Mary’s College of Teachers Education ( 3rd)
The event was graced by Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh as the Chief Guest and FR Kharkongor, Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Department of Arts and Culture etc as the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders to invest in the promotion of choir singing and the immense talent of the youths in the state, He announced that this should be an annual event to further the talents and skills of
the youths of the state.
Kharkongor, while addressing the gathering, emphasised on the effect of music on the mind, body and spirit of every individual. The competition was judged by a panel of eminent personalities from the music fraternity consisting of Pauline Warjri, Rimame Lyndem, Toshan Nongbet and Gordon Thabah.
The winners were awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates which were handed over to them by the minister and the principal secretary.
