Young biker dies after fall in North Garo Hills

Shillong. Jan 24: A biker fell into an under-construction culvert hole, resulting in his death in North Garo Hills on Saturday evening.
A police official said that around 6:20 pm, the victim, while riding a two-wheeler on the highway, deviated from the main road and fell accidentally into an under-construction culvert hole beside the road where construction was ongoing.
The victim has been identified as Nejubirth D. Sangma (23), s/o late Gremitson Sangma, a resident of Pangsudam Village, Mendiphatar, North Garo Hills.
Police said the rider was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the incident. As a result of the fall, he sustained serious head injuries, resulting in his death.
“The enquiry clearly revealed that the incident occurred purely due to accidental reasons, influenced by lack of visibility in the dark, road conditions at the construction site and non-use of safety gear, and not due to any act of violence or foul play”, North Garo Hills SP Pawar Swapnil said.
