Shillong, Jan 9: Ten members of late Neil Herbert Nongkynrih’s family tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, a day after his funeral.
Among those tested positive are Pauline and Barkos Warjri, the sister and brother-in-law of Neil, and father AH Scott. Neil’s mother has not been affected by the virus.
While Barkos has fever, Pauline is asymptomatic. Speaking to this reporter, Barkos said he had to “visit hospital for a few tests”.
On January 3, the state government came out with revised and stricter guidelines in the wake of rising cases of Covid-19. One protocol stated, “Maximum number of 50 persons are permitted for funerals.”
However, the number of people at Neil’s funeral on Saturday was in hundreds as friends and well-wishers came to pay tribute to the musician and founder of Shillong Chamber Choir who died in Mumbai. Though most people were wearing masks there was no social distancing among guests.
