
Shillong, Feb 9: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has welcomed the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)’s offer for unconditional peace talks and assured to appoint an interlocutor once an official communication from the outfit is received.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “In the interest of peace, we would like to move in this direction and based on that the government of Meghalaya has already started going through different names for appointment of an interlocutor.
The government is also awaiting a letter from the HNLC to start the peace process.
Earlier, cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai welcomed the move of HNLC to hold peace talks and left it to the chief minister to decide on the interlocutor.
