Shillong, Nov 2: The District and Sessions judge of West Garo Hills on Wednesday convicted three persons for sexually assaulting minor girls.
Nenggrik D Sangma was sentenced to four years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under Section 368 of the IPC (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement, kidnapped or abducted person) and seven years of simple imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine under Section 376 (1) of the IPC for rape.
In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for three more months. Nenggrik sexually assaulted a girl when she was returning home from school on June 2, 2017.
The Court of Special Judge (POCSO), West Garo Hills, also sentenced Lukias G Momin to six months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 for molesting a minor girl on February 18, 2016.
In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for six more months.
The POCSO court sentenced Arindom Das to one-and-a-half years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for molesting a minor girl on May 16, 2016.
In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo simple imprisonment for six more months.
