40 Meghalaya students reach Tripura from Bangladesh
Shillong, July 20: Forty students, mostly studying medicines in Bangladesh, have safely crossed Sonamura border in Tripura.
The neighbouring country is in turmoil following a decision to implement 30 per cent job quota for freedom fighters and theirĀ descendents.
The state government said all the formalities are being completed for their onward journey to Shillong.
The state government is in touch with authorities in Indian Embassy in Bangladesh for ensuring safe evacuation of the students.
Many students had also crossed over to Dawki from the violence affected areas of the neighbouring country.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) andĀ Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sonamura have organised refreshments and packed food for the incoming students of Meghalaya from Bangladesh.
Two super deluxe sleeper coaches with security were also arranged at the Sonamura border to ensure the comfort and safety of the students. Dinner for the students has been coordinated through the DC of Khliehriat at the government circuit House in Khliehriat.
“Ensuring the students’ safety is the utmost priority of the state government and for the ongoing efforts, separate nodal officers from the administration and police have also been appointed to oversee the entire process”, said an official statement.
