
Shillong, Feb 23: The state government is planning to send scholars to foreign countries to trace ancestral heritage.
Presenting the Budget for 2026-27 on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Next year, we will scale our ambitions, and 75 scholars will be supported and sent to Vietnam, Cambodia and Tibet to trace our ancestral heritage”.

He said to promote research in areas of arts and culture, heritage studies, indigenous communities, land, language and lineage and evaluation studies, the Chief Minister’s Research Grant has already empowered 48 scholars.
“Our conservation efforts have resulted in the scientific archiving of over 14,000 historic records, preserving knowledge for generations”, he added.
