Party to unite ahead of polls: Deborah

Shillong, Sept 20: The new general secretary of MPCC , Deborah Marak said on Monday that the party will remain united ahead of the next Assembly polls though there are problems.

The CLP leader Mukul Sangma did not attend the party meetings on two occasions recently after Shillong MP Vincent Pala was appointed the state party president. Mukul did not cite any reasons for his absence.

According to sources, lack of consultations is one of the reasons for Mukul’s stand.

The AICC is aware of the resentment among the party MLAs from Garo Hills after Pala’s appointment.

To a question,  Deborah said it depends on the  high command to sort out the differences.

She said challenges are many for the party to get absolute majority in the next elections.

“Only when we are close to the polls, we would be able to understand the real picture as there are many challenges now to get absolute majority”, Deborah added.

However overall observation is that the Cong will do well, she said.

Corruption issue of the present government will be the agenda of the Congress, she said adding that people are aggrieved as the government is yet to live upto the aspirations of the people of the state.
