Shillong, Feb 11: A 93- year-old pedestrian was killed when an Assam Rifles escort vehicle hit him in Nongpoh on Tuesday morning.
The police seized the vehicle following the incident.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 10.20 am at Nongpoh Down Gate, DC Junction in Shillong- Guwahati lane after the escort vehicle of Assam Rifles ( ML 05 Y-3232 Mahindra Thar) hit Jonga Bahadur from. Shangbangla, who was crossing the road after two escort vehicles passed through the area.
The vehicle, proceeding from Shillong to Guwahati, in a convoy, was driven by Sreekanth SS son of Sreekumar G of DGR, Secretariat Laitkor, East Khasi Hills.
Police said the incident happened when the milkman suddenly crossed the road just after two of the convoy had crossed and he has been hit by the third vehicle which was part of the convoy.
The victim was rushed to civil hospital Nongpoh and the driver was sent for medical examination.
Police said the involved vehicle has been towed to the police station for safe custody. Later, the attending medical officer referred the victim to NEIGRIHMS where he succumbed to his injuries.
