Shillong, Jan 13: The escort vehicle of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui hit a bike leaving the rider dead besides injuring the pillion rider in East Garo Hills on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the accident took place at Khera around 1.25 pm when the home minister was on his way to Williamnagar to inspect the construction of Williamnagar college after inspecting the model college at Rongjeng.
The deceased has been identified Jaokmin Marak (bike rider) and Marchim Sangma -both from Dobu. While the body of Marak was handed over to his parents, the injured is undergoing treatment at Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
The escort vehicle ( ML02 2302) was from Williamnagar and according to the police, the life of the pillion rider was saved due to the swift action of the second escort vehicle.
