Bangladesh denies report on China missile centre
Dhaka, Mar 15 (UNI): The Bangladesh government has denied a report that China has set up a missile maintenance centre in the country.
Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam termed the report by a news magazine “completely false and misleading”. Alam told the media on Tuesday that regular maintenance is required when any equipment is purchased from a foreign country but beyond that there is no plan to build a permanent facility in Bangladesh.
The minister also said no such facility existed in the past as well.
NIKKEI Asia reported that China was preparing to set up a maintenance facility in Bangladesh for surface-to-air missiles supplied to it in 2011. Earlier, China’s Ambassador to Dhaka, Li Jiming, also denied knowledge about any such facility being established or planned for Bangladesh.
