Ammunition recovered from SWKH
Shillong, March 24: The BSF along with the police recovered ammunition from South West Khasi Hills on Thursday.
In a statement , the BSF said that it’s troops of 193 battallion, in a joint operation with Meghalaya police, launched search operation in the dense forest area all along a brook in Gumaghat area that flows from India to Bangladesh and recovered ammunition hidden in a cavity surrounded by lime stones. The area falls under Gumaghat police station in the district.
The ammunition was found wrapped in a white sack.
92 rounds of 5.56mm, 129 rounds of 7.62mm and 160 rounds of 9mm were recovered.
The BSF said in the past, such cache was recovered by the BSF in the nearby area, which was probably used by insurgent groups for extortion purpose and other illegal activities. The place of occurrence is located around 900 meter inside India from international border.
The recovered ammunition was handed over to police in Gumaghat and an FIR was lodged. The PRO BSF Meghayala said the force’s intelligence network is working on to find more such cache of ammunition hidden by miscreants.
