Assam-Meghalaya border dispute in 70 per cent area resolved: Amit Shah
Boundary deal signed in New Delhi
Shillong, March 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that with the signing of border deal by Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday in New Delhi ,70 per cent of the dispute has been resolved.
“It is a historic occasion as it has been a 50-year-old problem. I appreciate the efforts of the chief ministers of both the states”, Shah said during the signing of the boundary dispute.
He also reminded that in July last year during the meeting of the chief ministers in Shillong, he had asked the Northeastern states to resolve the problem among themselves.
Later in a statement, the chief minister, Conrad Sangma termed the signing of agreement as historic.
He said as dispute in six areas has been resolved, the next move is to look at the remaining six areas of difference.
