Speaker against casinos in state
Shillong, Sept 19: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh wanted the government to review its decision on casinos in the state.
Metbah, who is also the UDP chief, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently about the widespread apprehension and displeasure from different political leaders, religious bodies and NGOs of the state on casinos.
Metbah also enclosed a letter of September 14, submitted by Rev Edwin H Kharkongor, Secretary, Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF).
“I am also of the opinion to express that the views and concerns raised by the church body in this letter, should be taken seriously by the government in the interest of the general public of the state,” Metbah said.
There is a need to review the decision in view of the concerns.
