Councils want separate notification on CrPC, CPC

Shillong, Sept 21: KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne on Wednesday said a separate notification is needed to exclude the district councils from CrPC, CPC extension.
The state government on Tuesday notified the extension of CrPC and CPC to all the courts in Meghalaya.
The notification also said the district council courts will continue to derive powers under paragraphs 4 and 5 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
However, after a meeting to discuss the matter, Chyne told reporters that the government should issue a separate notification to exclude the district councils.
Chyne also said moving the court will be the last option if the government does not act and added further meetings will be held to discuss the future course of action.
The councils fear that the notification of the government will result in dilution of the powers of the council courts.
