Leader of opposition never understood pain of people: CM
Conrad slams Mukul for calling creation of blocks & sub-divisions 'political gimmick'
Shillong, Dec 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday criticised Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma for not creating blocks and sub-divisions when he was the chief minister for eight years.
Referring to Mukul’s comment that the government’s move to create new blocks and sub-divisions was a “political gimmick”, Conrad said it was unfair to the people residing in those areas.
Mukul had also said the NPP-led government was panicking before the 2023 elections because its chances to win were declining. To this, Conrad said, “If only the leader of the opposition had spoken to those people and realised their pain and the challenges they faced he would come to know that they are very happy with this development.”
He added that the aim of creating the new C&RD blocks and civil sub-divisions (CSDs) was to bring administration closer to people.
“Maybe when he was chief minister for eight years, he could have given them those blocks, but I guess he did not want to do anything at that time for those people. However, we (MDA government) have realised that those people were facing a lot of challenges and they had to travel for hours to reach the administrative headquarters to get even basic services like certificates,” the chief minister said.
According to Conrad, those who were criticising the government did not understand the pain of the people and they should ask those living in Patharkhmah, Namdong, Rambrai and Rongjeng about their plight.
