Lukha festival organiser says change of river colour due to cement plants
Shillong, Jan 30: The organiser of the upcoming Lukha festival scheduled on February 3 and 4 ,says the change of colour of the river into blue is due to the pollutants from the cement plants.
However, the reports of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board had pointed out acid mine drainage from the coal mines as the probable cause.
KS Suchiang, president, Sonapyrdi Tourism & Economic Development Society, said the purpose of organising the festival is to create awareness on the need to protect the Lukha river.
