USTM gives back fees to achievers

Shillong, Aug 12: The unique Pay Back Policy of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is paying back to students in terms of excellent results and the entire course fee as a reward from the university, said a statement issued by the USTM on Saturday.

In the results declared in 2023, as many as 64 students from the university cleared the competitive exams of UGC & CSIR, National Eligibility Test (NET)  &. State Eligibility Test( SLET).

Speaking on the occasion, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM said that the university is giving such incentives to students so that students become more competitive and motivated. Hoque said USTM is committed to its assurance that no brilliant student should be deprived of pursuing higher education only because of their financial incapability.

Congratulating the students on their achievement, Dr Azmol H Barbhuiya, Academic Registrar of USTM said, “Our students are continuously shining in national level competitive exams and in the coming days USTM is committed to guiding the students to perform better. The effort will be intensified through the NET forum of the University which is providing free coaching to our student aspirants.”

Dr. Trishna Thakuria, Director, University NET Forum stated that Rs 1.3 crore has been returned to former students as an incentive of university best practices under the Payback Policy to NET achievers. “To encourage the students to qualify NET, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), SLET, IAS, or any other top-level competitive examinations conducted by States & Centre, USTM has introduced the Pay Back Policy wherein students of the University who qualify for these prestigious examinations shall get back their fees. Special coaching & guidance facilities are provided for the aspirants of various competitions”, she said.

As part of its Outreach Mission, USTM  imparts free coaching for NET, SLET, GATE, banking, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and other allied services for the students of USTM through Centre for Competitive Examination. NET-Forum is an integral component of this Centre for competitive examination and has been functioning since 2017.
