Cooch Behar Trophy: Mizoram lose early wicket to Meghalaya before day’s end
Shillong, Nov 18: Just six overs were possible on the second day of the Cooch Behar Trophy, a BCCI multi-day tournament for U-19 men, between Meghalaya and Mizoram at the MCA Ground here on Saturday.
Yesterday saw a complete washout because of persistent rain but there were clear and sunny skies this morning to greet the players. However, it took a long time for the outfield to dry despite the best efforts of the ground staff and they were not helped when conditions became overcast in the afternoon.
After patiently waiting for the action to get underway, a huge cheer went up from the young cricketers when the umpires announced that play could finally take place.
The hosts won the toss and chose to field first, hoping to get some help for the pace bowlers from the cloudy skies and brisk wind.
Angkit Tamang bowled three maiden overs from the tennis court end while Banialam Mylliemngap (1/4), bowling from the pavilion end, bagged the lone wicket to fall, that of Mizoram’s Marcus for 2, caught behind by wicketkeeper Dipankar Barua.
Just six overs were possible today, with Mizoram finishing on 4/1. Although an early wicket fell, they should be reasonably happy not to have lost more given the tricky batting conditions. With two days still to play and good weather expected, both teams will still have strong hopes of victory.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Meghalaya Cricket Association felicitated the match officials as well as the support staff of the visiting Mizoram team.
