Shillong, May 29: Over 5,000 people were affected in the cyclone Remal-induced rain in Meghalaya.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday told reporters that 5619 persons were affected.
“There was one death, injuries to five persons and 5619 population were affected in 271 villages”, he said.
910 houses and 95 infrastructures were damaged due to heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by the cyclone.
Rs 19.85 crore has been released to the twelve districts for providing immediate relief to victims of cyclone Remal in the state.
“The amount has been released to the deputy commissioners so that they can utilise it for immediate relief and they need not wait for norms to be followed. They can release the money and follow the procedures later on,” he said.
CM assures to restore power supply
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured that power supply, which has been interrupted due to heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by the cyclone Remal, will be restored very soon.
In a video statement, Sangma shared the after impact of the cyclone and said there have been some damages in some parts of the state.
“In some parts, we have also lost one life in the Jaintia Hills region and the ex-gratia has been given to the respected family members,” he said.
